Get Enough Sleep for Your Health

Sleep is a natural state of bodily rest. Children need a greater amount of sleep per day than adults to develop and function properly. A recent survey found that more people are sleeping less than six hours a night, and sleep difficulties visit 75% of us at least a few nights per week. A short-lived bout of insomnia is nothing to worry about. But one should be aware when the chronic sleep loss occurs because it can contribute the heath problems such as weight gain, high blood pressure, and a decrease in immune system’s power, reports the Harvard Women’s Health Watch.

Here are the six reasons why one should get enough sleep:
  1. Sleep is good for learning and memory.

Sleep helps the brain commit new information to memory through a process called consolidation. In studies, people who’d slept after learning a task did better on the test.

  1. Sleep is good for metabolism and weight.

Chronic sleep deprivation may cause weight gain by affecting the way our bodies process and store carbohydrates, and by altering levels of hormones that affect our appetite.

  1. Sleep affects our mood.

Sleep loss may result in irritability, impatience, inability to concentrate, and moodiness.

  1. Sleep for safety.

Sleep debt contributes to a greater tendency to fall asleep during the day time. This is dangerous because these lapses may cause falls and mistakes such as road accidents, and mishaps.

  1. Sleep is good for cardiovascular health.

Sleep disorder have been linked to hypertension, increased stess, and irregular heartbeat.

  1. Enough sleep may also fight cancer.

Sleep deprivation alters immune function, including the activity of the body’s killer cell.

By the way, I like to watch my kids sleeping. They seemed so peaceful in their own sleeping styles. If they get enough sleep they will spend the day cheerfully. Let’s get enough sleep!

A Housewife’s Life

Isn’t it boring to become a housewife? Several years ago when I had just quit from my former job, I felt depressed. But now, after I realized how lucky I am to have a colorful life, three kids and a very good husband, I never felt bored.

I can arrange what I want to do, and what I have to do. I can make a schedule with various activities such as taking the children to their school and their course; and picking them up, blogging, assisting the children to learn their lessons, writing posts and stories, having cream bath and body treatment, shopping, having fun with my family, spending time together with my husband, going to gym, visiting my parent and my parent-in-law, and cooking (once in a blue moon. Ha..ha… cause I have maids who help me ).

If there are something beyond my schedule, such as seeing my old friends, or going to a party, I can change my schedule because it is flexible. Although I have daily routine activities, but everyday is different, everyday has its own color.

I spend a lot of time driving when I take my kids to the places where they have their activities. I always bring books to read, a pen to write anything that comes in my mind, and of course my phone-cell Nokia N-95 with camera to capture photos of sudden beautiful moments when I have to wait for the kids, so I don’t waste time idly.

So, isn’t it boring to become a housewife? I don’t even have time to feel bored!

The Negative Impacts of Violence on Television for Children

Do children nowadays watch too much violence on television’s program? I think so. From Naruto, Dragon Ball, Samurai-X, Ultraman, to Power Ranger are being exposed on television everyday. These are not include the action films that show kicking, hitting, beating, shooting, car chasing, car smashing, and killing which are televised at the prime time when the children still have a big possibility to watch it. Violence on television not only affects the children to be more aggressive but also encourages the children to accept the violence as something normal in the daily life.

How does violence on television affect the children? It inspires the children to behave. An eight-year-old boy broke into a warehouse. When the police caught him and asked him why he was wearing gloves he replied that he had learned to do so to not leave fingerprints and that he discovered this on television. The children also imitate the violent behavior of the figure they see on television. For instance, a five-year-old-boy kicked his friend because he didn’t let him borrow his comic. When the teacher asked him why he did that, he said he wanted to be like Giant, a big and strong boy on Dora Emon.

Violence in television encourages the children to accept the violence as something normal in the daily life. The sheer volumes of violence on television are being televised almost everyday make the children see violence are something usual. More over, they see the violence as a way to solve problem. They think they can hit, beat, kick, and even kill somebody who is a criminal, just like they see it on television. . However, children don’t always realize this is not the way thing are handled in real life.

All and all, the negative effects of violence on television for children can not be denied. Research shows that it is definitely a major source of violent behavior in children. So, this is time for parents to take action. They should care about what their children watch on television. The parents should choose which programs are good for children. They should accompany the children when they are watching, and tell them which are the good things they should follow or the bad things they should avoid. Don’t let violence on television ruin the behavior of our children!

Mastering English for the Better Future

Why mastering English is very important nowadays? Why many parents take and even force their children to join English courses? Those questions are related to the demands of this globalization era. English is the most commonly used language in the world. And certainly, the number of English speakers is growing as it is now the commonly taught language in Europe, Mainland China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Indonesians should do the same effort to improve their English skill because English can be the key to open a big opportunity for the better quality of life. In my opinion Mastering English can help Indonesians have a better future by facilitating them to get job easier and making them become the more qualified human resources.

Mastering English can help Indonesians have a better future by facilitating them to get job easier. Besides the major education and skill, Indonesians should equip themselves with English proficiency. Indonesians with good English proficiency are considered employees with added value. Many companies give bigger opportunity to recruit the Indonesians who have good English skill. Consequently, Indonesians who do not have English skill will be left behind.

The second preeminence of mastering English is it can help Indonesians have a better future by making them become the more qualified human resources. The Company usually gives the chance to its employees improving their knowledge and skill trough the scholarship. Indonesian employees who master English will get more possibility to get the chance, because usually one of the requirements to get the scholarship is good English proficiency. When an employee gets the chance to have more degree and skill, automatically they will get opportunity to develop their carrier. They will have more ability to compete with other employees, and they will become the more qualified human resources.

All in all, mastering English is a must. In this globalization era when the people compete each other, English proficiency is the key to be the winner. The winner is the one who get a chance to have a good job, a good opportunity to develop his carrier. A good carrier means the better salary, the better facility, the better quality of life and the better future.
