The Negative Impacts of Violence on Television for Children

Do children nowadays watch too much violence on television’s program? I think so. From Naruto, Dragon Ball, Samurai-X, Ultraman, to Power Ranger are being exposed on television everyday. These are not include the action films that show kicking, hitting, beating, shooting, car chasing, car smashing, and killing which are televised at the prime time when the children still have a big possibility to watch it. Violence on television not only affects the children to be more aggressive but also encourages the children to accept the violence as something normal in the daily life.

How does violence on television affect the children? It inspires the children to behave. An eight-year-old boy broke into a warehouse. When the police caught him and asked him why he was wearing gloves he replied that he had learned to do so to not leave fingerprints and that he discovered this on television. The children also imitate the violent behavior of the figure they see on television. For instance, a five-year-old-boy kicked his friend because he didn’t let him borrow his comic. When the teacher asked him why he did that, he said he wanted to be like Giant, a big and strong boy on Dora Emon.

Violence in television encourages the children to accept the violence as something normal in the daily life. The sheer volumes of violence on television are being televised almost everyday make the children see violence are something usual. More over, they see the violence as a way to solve problem. They think they can hit, beat, kick, and even kill somebody who is a criminal, just like they see it on television. . However, children don’t always realize this is not the way thing are handled in real life.

All and all, the negative effects of violence on television for children can not be denied. Research shows that it is definitely a major source of violent behavior in children. So, this is time for parents to take action. They should care about what their children watch on television. The parents should choose which programs are good for children. They should accompany the children when they are watching, and tell them which are the good things they should follow or the bad things they should avoid. Don’t let violence on television ruin the behavior of our children!

  1. This is really true. What the children saw on tv, sometimes they imitate. And really, to be honest, kids watch long hours in front of the tv! TV is like baby sitters to some kids! You are right, parents should know what the kids are watching.

  2. It's so true that if children watch long hours of viewing violence on television, then it could lead them to being violent and aggressive. Parents definitely need to know what their children are watching on television because if they're watching something that's not for them, it isn't good.
